- India has certain Natural & National advantages in Steel Industry, & should be amongst Top Steel Exporting Countries & aim at atleast 20% of total production for Exports.
- Indian Media has been vocalizing this great Indian potential to shift at least part of the Global requirements in STEEL -Both Flat products & Long Products, from China , for quite sometime.
Sadly, This opportunity is ebbing away from Indian shores due to :
1-Indian steel industry is focussed on Domestic markets/Day to day price variations etc, without looking at the possibility of securing smaller overseas markets for relevant technology products.
2.SME & Medium scale Steel manufacturers from steel clusters like Raipur/Punjab/Bhavnagar are keen to export, but are held up due to disproportionate transportation costs & seasonal High seafreights to Africa/Latin America/US from all Indian Ports.
3- Indian large Flat steel Mills are not interested in expanding the Exports of value added Flat steel products like GIC/GCS/PPGI/ etc by utilising the Indian Merchant Exporter/Trader network & refuse to use
the 0.1% GST facility given to Indian Merchant Exporters.
I hope Individual initiative & enterprise only will get over this Mindset.
